NOTES for the MELNIKOV PROGRAM

Mr. Franz Schubert is known as the best loved song writer of all time. He always made the piano an equal partner with the voice in all his lieder (songs). Schubert's Wanderer Fantasy in C Major for piano was based on the song Der Wanderer.

Mr. Johannes Brahms' wrote many piano Fantasien (fantasy pieces). In his music he wrote large chords that were spread out throughout the piano keys covering many octaves. His music is full with sonority, arpeggiation, with much doubling of the melodic line in thirds, sixths and octaves. It is harmonically rich and full of emotion within a Classical form.

Mr. Alexander Scriabin was interested in mysticism, especially during the last part of his life. He was a brilliant pianist who enjoyed playing his own compositions on his European tours. Listen for what he called his mystic chord which consisted of superimposed fourths in his pieces.

Mr. Melnikov performs on a Steinway Piano. He has recorded for HARMONIA MUNDI.Exclusive Management: ARTS MANAGEMENT GROUP, INC.,37 West 26th Street, New York, NY 10010
