Baiba Skride Violinist

"Baiba Skride might be viewed as a throwback to the golden age of Heifetz, Kreisler and Milstein… she has a way of speaking naturally through her violin which instantly engages the listener's emotions."- BBC Music Magazine, July 2008. Ms. Skride was born into a musical Latvian family in Riga where this fine young violinist began her musical studies, transferring in 1995 to the Conservatory of Music and Theatre in Rostock. In 2001 she won the 1st prize of the Queen Elizabeth Competition. Still in her mid-twenties, over recent seasons she has appeared with orchestras world wide: the Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunk, Munich Philharmonic, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Tonhalle Orchester, Orchestre de Paris, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony and the U.S. orchestras of Philadelphia, Houston, Cincinnati, St. Louis and Detroit. Following her solo concert with Matinee Musicale Cincinnati, Baiba will perform again with the Cincinnati Symphony playing the Beethoven Triple Concerto with cellist Jan Vogler and her sister Lauma Skride, pianist. The two sisters will once again partner for the Matinee recital as they did so successfully several years ago. Ms. Skride plays the Stradivarius "Wilhelm" violin (1725), which is on loan to her from the Nippon Music Foundation. You won't want to miss this opportunity to hear one of the up-and-coming classical music stars so order your tickets before they are gone. To see these two sisters perform together in concert will be a delight for all attending.
